Google has hooked us up with a feature that downloads entire regions of Maps over a Wi-Fi connection, letting you complete your journey without having to connect to a cellular network. Here, we show you step by step how to download Google Maps areas. Earlier versions of Google Maps would only let you view downloaded regions of a map, which was useful but still required you to connect to the Internet to start navigating or search for a specific location.
These days, Google Maps offers a much better offline experience for users. Turn-by-turn navigation, location searches and establishment info can all be accessed without a data connection.
Simply search any location within that region. So there you have it, how to download Google Maps offline and manage areas. In the Google Maps app, search for the location maps you want to download.
If you tap the name of the location on the bottom of the screen , it will expand to take up the full screen and give you additional information. In the top right corner, there is a button comprised of three dots, press them to bring up additional options. Choose what area to download. Google Maps will now show you the exact area of maps that will be downloaded. You can expand or decrease the area of maps being downloaded by zooming in or out.
The app will tell you much more storage space is required. Important to know! The offline installer links do not include the automatic update feature.
